From looking at the two gangs, the Greasers and the Socs, in the book The Outsiders, it is safe to say that the Greasers were the true disgrace and menace to society. The last piece of evidence clearly tells us that both the Greasers and the Socials have it rough all over, meaning they both have problems, no matter what. The book tells us, “Things are rough all over” (35). The third and final piece of evidence is on page 35 of the book. This quote shows to us that still after Ponyboy and Cherry being in opposite gangs, they still have similar interests in literature, popular music, and more. The packet states, “Cherry Valance, a Soc, and Ponyboy, a Greaser, discuss their shared love for literature, popular music…” (12). The second piece of evidence exists, on page 1 in the packet Themes, Motifs & Symbols. This piece of evidence proves that both Ponyboy and Cherry are from opposite gangs but still watch the same sunset. Cherry said to Ponyboy, “Just don’t forget that some of us watch the sunset too” (46). The first piece of evidence to prove the Greasers and the Socs are similar exists on page 46 in the book.
